• Review of "Barn Cooperative Nursery School" at Concord

  Long story short, my daughter attended this school for a month last year in 2016 when she was 4. I pulled her out because she was being bullied (even I witnessed it when parent-helping) and the director was simply dismissive about it, that it just does not happen in their school. Rather than saying she will keep an eye, like what sane and responsible adult or educator would say and do, she denied the possibility and started to attack my 4 year-old's character. Wow, some were untrue, and overall immature and unprofessional interaction. After realizing that decent interaction was impossible with the director, I pulled my daughter out. I even sought an education lawyer around because I certainly wanted my money back from this ridiculous institution and I had everything on record via email. The school ended up giving me a refund "out of good will" (their words), however. Now that my daughter is 5 and in kindergarten with better discernment, she told me that with the exception of one teacher who was very helpful and fair, other teachers were not nice. When I asked what "not nice" was, she remembers a couple of boys shoving and pushing her and when she told "the other teachers," they just shrugged and replied "oh, ok" and walked away. And they think so highly of themselves for having "years of experience." She also let me know that a kid called her a goblin and laughed at her, and when her feelings were hurt and complained, an adult told her "that's ok, goblins are cute." Just wow! And yet, when my daughter just stated "boys don't wear jewelry," apparently another adult pretty much yelled at her "yes they can!" Very far from nurturing. I am so glad that I pulled her out on her third week of school, especially after hearing things from her about how the teachers behaved. Honestly, with 3-4 teachers and a parent helper, it is EASY to redirect, teach and notice problems rising among kids. The director also complained to me that I shouldn't send a string cheese and water with my daughter because they encourage eating together the same things and complained about allergies in other kids. String cheese was pretty much on the menu always, and I packed it in because my daughter is very active and tall, and has a great appetite. And I never complained about their filtered water as I prefer giving bottled water because my daughter gets stomachaches and bathroom problems with faucet water. I never insisted they buy water, so I just provided my daughter with her bottle. And that was a problem. She was so willing to pick on things that did not matter, did not pay attention to kids or refused to deal with "problems." I really do not want to think that they were racists as everyone there was Caucasian - but do they really behave this way with all the kids and parents? Unbelievable. I hope a lot of things changed here and that they got their act together because it really seems subpar especially considering it is located in a town like Concord. One day I will get over this experience I suppose!

• Review of "Thoreau Elementary School" at Concord

  Thoreau Elementary School is by far the best elementary in all of concord. The friendship between teachers and students and the capability to teach even the slowest learners at a great pace is just amazing and the ability to make a kid feel at home is just brilliant. All together Thoreau is just a fabulous school where everyone is caring, responsible, respectful and to top it off, the teachers are just so kind that no one could ever resist their loving hearts and affection for learning.

  My 9 year old Daughter was struggling in school. Having identified processing issues, we brought her to Axiom for the LEAP program. Working had over the summer has paid off with She being a more confident student, and reading becoming more of a joy than a chore.
